2010 OC FILM FESTIVAL
The Orange County Film Festival was held January 2nd at Northwood High School in Irvine, California.
El Dorado students earned 4 awards at the 2010 OC Film Festival. Student Libby Blood earned the awards for BEST EDITOR and BEST PRODUCER for her music video LOVE VIGILANTES. The BEST ACTOR award was also given to a member of the cast of LOVE VIGILANTES. Jason Kramer’s DVD Yearbook Trailer X also won the award for BEST TRAILER.

2009 EL DORADO FILM FESTIVAL
The 7th Annual El Dorado Film Festival was held on Friday, May 1, 2009 in the El Dorado Gai Jones Theatre.

2009 HARVARD - WESTLAKE FILM FESTIVAL
On Friday, March 20th, EDHS Video Production student Josh Dixon was honored at the 6th Annual Harvard-Westlake Film Festival at the Arclight Theater on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Josh’s music video for “Thriller” earned the “Lizzy” Award for Cinematography. The award was presented by 2 time Oscar winner for Best Actor Tom Hanks. 150 films were submitted to this year’s festival and 13 films were screened at the Arclight.
2009 ORANGE COUNTY FILM FESTIVAL HONORS
El Dorado won 5 awards at the OC Film Festival held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009. “Thriller” was named BEST MUSIC VIDEO and “Wizard Remnant” was named BEST SHORT FILM. Josh Dixon was honored as BEST DIRECTOR for his work on “Wizard Remnant.” Also, Lexi Kupratis was named BEST ACTOR, and Janell LeFrancois, Nader Vaziri and Josh Dixon were named BEST PRODUCERS for their work on “Thriller.”
Overall, El Dorado earned 6 film/video/broadcast nominations and 17 overall nominations including all the individual awards. Student Josh Dixon was honored with 9 individual nominations. Last year, EDHS had 12 total nominations.
The OC Film Festival had over 100 entries this year and handed out 42 nominations in 9 different categories.

Students in El Dorado’s Advanced Video Production - Broadcasting Class work on a video yearbook, a weekly news broadcast called “Hawk Talk” and learn the pre-production, production, and post-production techniques of filmmaking.
2007-2008 Highlights:
The student of the year for 2007-2008 was EDHS Junior Janell LeFrancois. Congrats Janell. The El Dorado students attended the Orange County Film Festival on Saturday, January 5th, where they were honored with 12 nominations for awards, the second most of any school in Orange County. Hawk Talk was nominated for Outstanding Broadcast and Graphics. Niko Giaimo was nominated for his short film “Road Blocks.” Levi Almanzar and Rosa Son were nominated in the category of Music Video. Janell LeFrancois was nominated for her DVD-Yearbook Trailer, Cullen Arroyo, Marc Lopez, and Drew Tekulve were nominated for their documentary on the SERVE program. Drew was also nominated for his animated show opener for Hawk Talk. Deirdre Williams was nominated for her identity theft ad in the Commercial category. Nader Vaziri, Phil Hinojosa, and Sean Garcia were nominated for Best Independent Film, Best Director, and Best Actor for their film “Phenix Company.” And finally, Media Production teacher Mark Switzer was named “Mentor of the Year” by the FilmED Academy of the Arts.
2006-2007 Highlights:
Student Christine Quan Le was recognized as the most outstanding EDHS Media Production Student for the 2006-2007 school year. Christine was also honored with an award for outstanding achievement in television graphics at the Student Television Network STN Convention held in March of 2007. Student Jake Brown won for Best Independent Film with his entry of T-MO at the Orange County Film Festival in January. Students Ryan Turner, Jake Brown (Forest Fire) and Josh Dixon (Legend of Zelda) won the Best in Festival Awards at the El Dorado Film Festival in April. Hawk Talk sports anchors Matt West and Kiley Hatch were nominated for best news anchors and student Deirdre Williams was nominated for best trailer / promotional advertisement at the Studio OC Film Festival as well.
